(VIGO CO.) - An early morning fire Friday left a family digging through what’s left of a barn.
WTHI reports, a barn that housed their beloved animals before the fire destroyed the building and everything inside.
Paula Booker is cleaning up what's left behind after the destruction.
Many other animals lost their lives in the fire.
"I mean, there was nothing we could do to try and save anything," Booker said. "The barn was completely engulfed. We lost about 80 animals in it."
Booker and her husband had taken some of the animals in as rescues.
"We have 4-H animals and we also do rescue animals on the side to where if we get a call we'll go get them," Booker said.
Fire officials aren't sure how the fire started.
It's believed to be an electrical fire.
On what was supposed to be the day of their Thanksgiving meal, the Bookers are thankful for those who've come to help.
"It means a lot," Booker said. "I mean, it's still hard but, I mean, it really means a lot to us."
And while the pieces are still being sorted through, Booker's hopes for the future are still bright.
"Hopefully our plan is to get some money gathered up and try to rebuild."
A rebuilding that will allow them to continue taking in rescued animals.
If you would like to donate, a website has been set up to help the Bookers raise money for a new barn.
