(WEST LAFAYETTE ) - Today is Cyber Monday. That’s the day when we’re supposed to see a huge spike in online shopping.
While retailers continue to push so-called great deals online, Purdue University Retail Expert Dr. Richard Feinberg says Cyber Monday isn't as big as it used to be.
Feinberg says Cyber Monday came about five years ago when many consumers still only had dial-up internet service which was much slower compared to today's broadband access. He says broadband and mobile allow now people to shop fast anywhere and at anytime.
Feinberg says online shopping now accounts for about ten percent of all shopping. He says it may grow to upwards of 20 percent in five years, but it won't overtake shopping in brick and mortar stores because consumers still like going to the mall.
