(INDIANAPOLIS) - Motorists are paying about thirty-five dollars less on average to fill up our tanks we were four years ago. Even just last year signs read well over $3.00 per gallon.
WTHR reports that Hoosiers, and much of the country, are enjoying prices at the pump well below that.
$2.31 per gallon is the lowest price that their crews saw overnight at 50th St. and Lafayette Rd. Many people are paying around $2.50 per gallon in central Indiana.
They wondered what that meant to those who really feel it when the prices spike and when they drop. Restaurant owner Becky Stamatkin told WTHR it's a big difference between now and then.
"There was panic in everybody's eyes. How am I going to get to work? People were paying fifty bucks per week or a hundred bucks per week to get back and forth to work. That's a big hit in your pocket. That's groceries," she said.
Now people have a little more cash in their pockets and perhaps a little more relief.
What it may mean, however, is more people traveling this holiday season. They may also travel to places that are farther away.
For businesses, it means a decrease in fuel surcharges, and that may be passed on to the customer.
It isn't just those travel by car or truck. Airlines are also expected to pass along some of the fuel savings to customers next year.
