(EVANSVILLE) - A man was arrested after police say he assaulted a nurse and tried to urinate on her and hospital staff late Friday evening.
According to an Evansville Police Department affidavit, Eric J. Schnautz was taken to Deaconess Hospital around 11:30 p.m. for a self inflicted cut on his arm. Staff soon called police back to the hospital for a battery incident.
According to the affidavit, police were called initially to an apartment on Howard Street for a medic assist. Officers were told that Schnautz had been drinking heavily and cut his arm because he "didn't care about life anymore."
Police said Schnautz was combative toward hospital staff and had to be restrained. According to the affidavit, Schnautz tried to grab a nurse in the emergency room who was assisting in the suturing of his wound.
The nurse told police he tried to kiss her and then grabbed her left forearm and started to squeeze and scratch at it. She said she had minor pain but no serious injuries.
According to the affidavit, Schnautz flailed around in a hospital room and tried to spray urine on the nurse and other staff.
Schnautz was cleared for release and taken to Vanderburgh County jail where he faces a preliminary charge of battery on a public safety official, a Level 6 felony.
