Man Trying To Sell Drugs Mistakenly Texted Off-Duty Officer

Last updated on Tuesday, December 30, 2014

(MADISON) - A southern Indiana man who mistakenly texted an off-duty police officer while allegedly trying to sell drugs faces felony charges after the officer texted him back and arranged a meeting.

34-year-old Jason Riddle is scheduled to appear Monday for an initial hearing on two counts of dealing in a controlled substance.

Court documents state that an off-duty Madison patrolman received a text Dec. 9 from an unfamiliar telephone number that appeared to be about prescription medication drug activity.

The Madison Courier reports that patrolman texted Riddle back and set up a time and location for their meeting.

The patrolman and another officer met Riddle in a local park, where he was arrested after a passenger in his car told the officers Riddle was selling his prescription pills.
