(GREENFIELD) - A man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison in the death of an Indianapolis woman who was fatally shot in a cornfield.
A Hancock County judge ordered the sentence Wednesday for 40-year-old Joe Meyers of Indianapolis, including 60 years on a murder conviction and 15 years for being a habitual offender. A jury last month convicted him of killing 23-year-old Katrina Miller, whose body was found in July just east of Indianapolis.
The Daily Reporter reports deputy prosecutor Tami Napier described Miller's death as an execution, with Meyers leading her into a dark cornfield and shooting her in the back of the head.
Meyers denied during Wednesday's hearing that he killed Miller.
Two other people are awaiting trial on charges in Miller's death.
