(SYRACUSE) - Indiana Conservation Officers responded to an off road vehicle crash in the 11,000 block of Webster Road in Syracuse yesterday around 4:30 pm.
57-year-old Rick Neff of Syracuse was operating an ATV across a field when he claimed that the throttle stuck. He attempted to make a right turn to avoid hitting a section of woods but was unable to.
Neff was thrown off the ATV before it struck a tree.
It was estimated the ATV was traveling 60 to 70 miles per hour. The impact snapped the tree in half.
The 2003 Polaris that he was operating was totaled.
Neff was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Goshen General Hospital with serious injuries.
Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind everyone to please wear a helmet and know where the kill switch is should the throttle become stuck.
