(UNDATED) - State officials say they’re satisfied with repairs and cleanup along the Indiana Toll Road after a summer of complaints about deteriorating conditions.
The Spanish-Australian-owned ITR Concession Company operates the road under a 75-year lease with the state. The Indiana Finance Authority, which oversees the lease, warned the company in June it was receiving numerous complaints about "extremely dirty and unsanitary" conditions in restrooms at the travel plazas along the road, inadequate signage, and other maintenance issues.
ITR took over cleaning duties from a subcontractor, and Toll Road Oversight Board director Jim McGoff says an October inspection found "marked improvement."
ITR emerged from bankruptcy in October and is searching for a buyer to take over the lease.
A spokesman for ITR refused to comment.
