(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two little girls whose only connection is that they lost their lives too early and were abandoned were brought together in an east side chapel Saturday.
Dozens of people attended a funeral held for Baby Amelia and Baby Harmony at Washington East Park Cemetery.
Baby Amelia was found by a hiker on the outskirts of Eagle Creek Park on December 28 . Her body was wrapped in an "Aviation Maintenance Vincennes University" sweatshirt.
The other child, Baby Harmony, went unclaimed at the Marion County Coroner's Office after she drowned in a bath tub while in the care of a guardian.
Linda Znachko, founder of "He Knows Your Name," an organization which provides burial services for the bodies of unclaimed children, said she was touched to see the community's support for the two young children.
"It is just so beautiful to see the community come forward and take their time to come and stand with a stranger," she said. "I just look at them and realize they now represent family."
Others came from organizations that reach out to struggling parents, like Mia Coltrane of Life Centers, an organization that offers services to mothers and families experiencing unplanned pregnancies.
"It was important for us to be here today just to show respect for these children who didn't have a chance," Coltrane said.
The mother of Baby Harmony gave permission for the ceremony. She is currently incarcerated in an Illinois prison.
Police said the search continues for clues in the death of Baby Amelia, including who her parents are.
Anyone with information about her death is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
