(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two women are dead after the car they were in spun out of control Saturday morning on and crashed I-465 northbound near the Washington Street exit.
State troopers were dispatched to the 11.6 mile marker of I- 465 northbound on the west side of Indianapolis just before 6 a.m on the report of a single vehicle crash.
The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the females as 49-year-old Lorenda Sue Wampler of Indianapolis and 46-year-old Jonie Faye Johnson-Milan of Indianapolis. Which female was driving at the time of the crash is still under investigation.
The preliminary investigation found that a woman driver and her front passenger were traveling on I-465 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a guard rail end cap on the driver's side. The vehicle then spun across the ramp from eastbound Washington Street to northbound I 465 and struck a second end cap of a guard rail. Both occupants of the car were ejected. The vehicle continued, unoccupied, sliding along the guardrail and came to rest against the concrete bridge railing over Washington Street.
Both women in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office is working to identify the two women and to make notification to their families.
