(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - A Columbus resident was carjacked Tuesday night after a driver in a previously stolen vehicle crashed near a rural home.
Dallas Doan lives in the 2200 block of County Road 550S and was watching television when he heard the sound of a crash at the end of the long lane leading to his house at about 7:30 Tuesday night.
He drove to the end of the lane in his daughter's 2003 red Ford Focus to find a car that had struck a pole on the road. Doan approached the driver to see if he was okay. That is when the driver went running toward a Blazer that was coming down the road. The Blazer kept going and wouldn't stop for the man.
That is when the car's driver attacked and pushed Doan to the ground and stole his daughters car. Police are still looking for the stolen four-door red Ford Focus with Indiana license plate RL1217. Call the Bartholomew County Sheriff if you spot the car or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
The carjacker is described as being white or possibly Hispanic, in his 20s or 30s with a smaller build and who spoke English with a minimal accent.
The crashed car, a gold or tan older model Chevy Malibu had been stolen from Jennings County, three hours before the crash.
Doan says the incident scared him, but he will probably still lend a helping hand to someone in need.
