(SHELBY CO.) - Authorities believe they have identified the man witnesses saw in Flatrock River hanging onto a canoe, and then observed by hunters in a field adjacent to the river.
43-year-old James Hellums of Shelbyville was last seen at a friend's house near the Flatrock River at 9 a.m. Sunday when he left with his white pit bull.
His family and friends have not been seen or heard from him since.
Police say, a cellular phone ping on Hellums' phone shows that it was turned off at some point Sunday morning.
The hunters have confirmed via photograph that Hellums was the man they encountered in the field. They also stated that Hellums had described his dog he was looking for as a white pitbull.
Hellums' parents have filed a missing person report with the Shelby County Sheriff Department.
If you know of Mr. Hellums whereabouts, please contact Shelby County Sheriff Department.
Details for continuing the search for Hellums will be made available when they are finalized.
