(FERDINAND) - The family of Mike Boeglin, the Ferdinand man who was shot and killed in Detroit in June, says detectives are now working on a new lead.
Jessica Schmidt of WFIE reports that Mike Boeglin's wife Ashley just gave birth to their daughter five weeks ago, so she says she's more desperate than ever to find out what happened to Mike, so she has something to tell their daughter. Ashley says she finally got news that's giving her a little bit of hope.
It's been more than six months since Detroit police believe someone shot and killed Mike Boeglin before setting his truck on fire in a robbery gone wrong.
In the time since, his wife Ashley has been learning how to life not only without him, but with their new addition five-week old MacKenzie.
"I feel like he's with us almost all the time, especially when like.. she does something like she'll smile at me in just the kind of off-handed way that he would smile at me too," says Ashley.
Holidays, normally a time of love and laughter, are bittersweet.
"We did all those things that we normally would, baby's first ornament, first visit with Santa which went great," says Ashley. "She didn't cry, but just things that I wish Mike would have been here for."
Ashley says investigators are looking for another truck driver they believe may have witnessed what happened to Mike.
"It definitely brings me hope," says Ashley. "At the same time, I don't want to become too hopeful and have everything come crashing down at the same time. You hope for the best. You prepare for the worst"
Ashley says family members were given access to Mike's truck and found Mike's wallet with his ID and money still in tact.
Ashley says, "it's real disheartening because then it tends to make you wonder well then what was the reason that he was killed."
Still more questions than answers for Ashley and her family. Something she hopes will change in the future so both she and her daughter can have closure.
"Why. Why Mike? What did he do wrong to deserve what he got from somebody? How could somebody be filled with so much hate to be able to do that to an individual? Why was he not able to stay with us, see his daughter, be a part of her life," says Ashley.
