Southern Indiana Hospital Heads To Auction Following Bankruptcy

Last updated on Tuesday, January 13, 2015

(CHARLESTOWN) - A southern Indiana hospital that filed for bankruptcy in 2012 is going on the auction block this week.

Charlestown officials hope Wednesday's auction of Saint Catherine Regional Hospital will lead to a new owner and new chief executive officer for the hospital, which opened in 1976.

The News and Tribune reports the hospital entered Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection in 2012, when it reportedly held unpaid debts in excess of $8 million. It is about 15 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.

The Charlestown City Council has provided $450,000 to keep the hospital running until there's a new owner.

Charlestown Mayor Bob Hall says the hospital "is a critical resource" and the council wants to see a new entity take ownership of it and act as a "good corporate citizen."
