(BICKNELL) - The City of Bicknell is getting a facelift.
The city is planning to tearing down several abandoned homes around town.
Mayor Jon Flickinger says the city received a grant for $415,000 through the state's Blighted Homes program to clean up the properties.
The city has 18 homes planned for demolition and the city attorney is currently researching to see if there are any tax liens that have been filed against the properties. Several of the homes were destroyed by fire or abandoned.
As part of the state program, once the homes have been removed and the properties cleaned up, it will be up to the city or some other group to maintain them.
Mayor Flickinger says the city is also in the process of adding new sidewalks and curbing along six city blocks and later this spring they hope to get started on the downtown revitalization project to add new street lights and mini park.
