(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis firefighters had a busy afternoon Friday battling four fires in five hours.
The first fire was reported around 1:15 at an apartment building in the 2700 block of Country Estates Drive on the city's south side. Four units were affected but only two were occupied. No one was home at the time and damage was estimated at 50-thousand dollars.
About an hour later, a second fire was reported on the northeast side in the 6800 block of Balfour Court. The home was also unoccupied at the time but firefighters were able to rescue a puppy and a rabbit from the home.
Around 3:00, firefighters were called to the 4400 block of Irwin Avenue, near 46th and Shadeland Avenue. The homeowner told firefighters he was in the bathroom and noticed smoke coming from underneath the door. He escaped but was injured while breaking glass in an attempt to rescue a dog and cat.
The fourth fire was reported around 5:00 in the 200 block of South Parker Avenue. One of the residents said she flipped on an electrical switch and got shocked. She heard crackling noises in the wall and began to see smoke coming out of the wall. Everyone inside the home was evacuated safely.
