Indiana Bound Prisoner Escapes

Last updated on Friday, February 6, 2015

(CARTERSVILLE, Ga.) - U.S. marshals and local law officers in northwest Georgia are searching for an inmate they say overpowered a guard on a van that was transporting prisoners.

Authorities say the prisoner, 42-year-old Sean Killion, struggled with the guard and escaped around 7 p.m. Wednesday after it stopped for a restroom break in Cartersville.

He was in the process of being transferred from Florida to Indiana to face federal drug charges.

Cartersville police Lt. Rich Hawley tells The Associated Press that Killion shoved the guard and ran after the private prison transport van stopped outside a gas station.

Hawley said the female guard chased and caught up to the Killion, but he broke away after a struggle.

The guard was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury. Hawley said it doesn't appear to be serious.

Killion is described as being 6 feet 1 inch tall, 195 pounds and wearing a black T-shirt and faded jeans.
