Witness Heard A "Pop" At Quadruple Slaying Scene

Last updated on Friday, February 20, 2015

(COLUMBUS) - A man who lives next door to a southern Indiana home where four people were slain told jurors at the alleged gunman’s trial that loud noises rang out in the home on the night of the slayings.

Carl Furkin told a Bartholomew County jury Wednesday that he heard "pops and cracks" coming from the home on May 11, 2013.

The Republic reports Furkin conceded under questioning by attorneys that he was not certain what time he heard those noises.

His testimony came during the third day of 57-year-old Samuel Sallee's trial in the shooting deaths of a woman and three men in Waynesville, a small community outside Columbus.

The Columbus man faces four murder counts in the killings, which authorities say unfolded during a suspected drug deal.
