(FORT WAYNE) - A child is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire Saturday afternoon.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the fire in the 300 block of Fleming Avenue after 10 a.m.
Crews could see the heavy smoke and fire throughout the two story home immediately upon arrival. Three adults and one child had been able to get out of the home with the help of a neighbor, but one child was still inside when firefighters arrived.
They went inside and were able to pull the child to safety. Firefighters treated the child until medics got to the scene. The child was then taken to the hospital in critical condition. An adult was also treated for minor injuries before being released from the hospital.
It took firefighters 32 minutes to get the fire under control. The home was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FWPD, TRAA, NIPSCO, AEP and Neighborhood Code assisted at the scene.
