(EVANSVILLE) - The Evansville Police Department says a man is jail after he allegedly tried to lure a 13-year-old boy into his car Wednesday night.
WFIE reports that it happened in the area of Monroe and Bedford around 8:30.
According to a police affidavit, the boy told police he was in the front yard of his home playing, when an older man in a car drove up, asked for directions and attempted to talk him into getting into the vehicle. He says the car circled the block three times and the man tried at least twice to get him in the car.
On the third time around, the boy told officers that he called for his mother and the man quickly drove off when he saw her.
The boy's mom then called 911.
Police say a vehicle matching the description the boy gave was spotted in the area and was stopped by officers after the driver failed to signal on a turn.
The driver was identified as 66-year-old Frank Reedy, of Nashville, TN.
When officers asked him about the incident, Reedy was unable to give an explanation as to why he needed directions because police say the apartment complex that he had just moved into was only about a block away.
After further investigation Reedy was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail. He is charged with attempted criminal confinement and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
