(SOUTH BEND) - Next week, the South Shore commuter line will launch its “Sunrise Express” train.
The train will travel from South Bend to Chicago in less than two hours.
Starting Monday, the train will leave South Bend at 6 a.m. Eastern time on weekdays and arrive at Millennium Station in downtown Chicago at 6:55 a.m. Central time. That's more than 40 minutes faster than the existing early morning train. The train will make stops at the Dune Parks Station in Chesterton and at East Chicago.
An afternoon express train will leave Millennium Station at 3:57 p.m. Central and arrive in South Bend at 6:55 p.m. Eastern.
Officials with the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District say the goal is to eventually cut the commute to 90 minutes.
