Four Bottle Bombs Found At Three Johnson Co. Homes

Last updated on Tuesday, March 10, 2015

(JOHNSON CO.) - Four bottle bombs were found at three Johnson County homes Sunday.

A resident called deputies to her home in the 4700 block of Pearcrest Way just before noon after finding a bottle on top of the snow in her front yard. They decided it appeared to be a "works bomb" and so they called in the county's bomb disposal team.

A works bomb is a homemade explosive device inside of a bottle, in this case it was a water bottle.

The team used an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robot to secure the device. Deputies later said the device was already under pressure, and if authorities had not been called, it would have exploded.

Another woman later stopped deputies and said she saw two men smoking cigarettes at the corner of Pearcrest and Highpoint Court around 11:30 Friday night.

While talking to her, deputies saw two more bottle bombs at a nearby home. The EOD team came in and secured those before either could explode.

A fourth bottle bomb was found in the 4600 block of Pearcrest Way. It was also safely contained.

After finding four bombs - all about one mile south of Center Grove schools - deputies canvassed three neighborhoods in the area but didn't find any others.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Johnson County Sheriff's Office at (317) 736-5155.
