(BURLINGTON, Ky.) - Authorities say an Indiana University student and her mother were killed after their vehicle was struck from behind by a semitrailer near the Indiana-Kentucky border.
18-year-old Amanda Ludwig and 59-year-old Elaine Ludwig, both of Hebron, were killed in the Saturday crash on Interstate 275. The Boone County (Kentucky) Sheriff's Office says the impact of the crash caused a fire that killed both women.
A spokesman for the sheriff's office says the semitrailer's driver was uninjured.
The westbound road was closed for about five hours on Saturday afternoon.
The fatal crash was being investigated by the Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.
