(VALPARAISO) - A northern Indiana man faces theft charges for allegedly stealing more than $612,000 from an insurance settlement awarded to an injured child.
53-year-old Clark W. Holesinger pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two felony theft charges ahead of his April 22 trial in Porter County.
The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports prosecutors allege Holesinger stole more than $612,000 awarded to the child under a 2007 settlement secured through the Indiana Patient Compensation Fund.
The child suffered a permanent injury during birth in 1999 and the mother gave Holesinger the money in 2008 to put into an investment account.
But that woman never received statements when she asked Holesinger and she later discovered there was no account in her child's name at the financial institution where he said he made the investment.
