(JASPER CO.) - Indiana State Trooper Corey Dupuy came in contact with a wayward dog that he tried to help over the past two days.
On Saturday, Dupuy found the black Labrador on Mount Calvary Road just west of US 231 (this is just south of Rensselaer). He attempted for over an hour to lure the Lab into his police car with cookies but was unsuccessful as the dog ran off into a field.
When Trooper Dupuy came out to work his afternoon shift on Sunday, March 8th, at approximately 2:30 p.m., he saw the same dog walking down the middle of US 231 near County Road 850 South (just south of Rensselaer). Dupuy went back to his residence to get food, treats, a leash and collar. It took over two hours for Dupuy to earn the trust of the dog so he could collar him. He then transported the Lab to the Jasper County Animal Shelter in Rensselaer.
Dupuy described the dog as a male black Labrador, skinny built, very timid but friendly. Anyone who would like to inquire about the Lab may contact the Jasper County Animal Shelter at (219) 866-5756.
