The company is spending $1.4 million in Columbus to replace two and a half miles of gas mains and more than 240 service lines to homes and businesses.
About four miles of pipelines have been replaced in Columbus since 2008.
Company officials say that the company is replacing about 1,300 miles of steel and cast iron pipes in Indiana.
Crews will be working in areas including Franklin Street, 16th Street, 17th Street, Lawton Street, Sycamore Street, Pearl Street, Lafayette Avenue, Pennsylvania Street, Caldwell Boulevard, 19th Street, 20th Street, 21st Street, 22nd Street, 23rd Street and Keller Street.
Company officials say that they will first replace the gas mains in the public right-of-way underneath the street or sidewalk. Then service lines to homes and businesses will be replaced. Any damage to yards, streets or sidewalks will be repaired once the work is finished.
