(NEW HAVEN) - Vera Bradley, Inc. announced Tuesday it is closing its manufacturing facility in New Haven, Indiana.
The company says it will close the facility beginning May 9.
CEO Robert Wallstrom says the company's domestic manufacturing costs have continued to rise year over year and closing the New Haven facility is the right long-term financial decision for the company as a whole.
About 250 people work at the plant which currently produces about five percent of the company's products.
Wallstrom says the company hopes some of the employees will be able to transfer to other positions within the company and those unable to transfer will receive severance packages.
Vera Bradley still employs about 630 people in the metro Fort Wayne area. About 600 people are employed at the company's headquarters and distribution facility in Roanoke, Indiana.
