(NEW CASTLE) - A judge has rejected a plea agreement reached by a central Indiana couple accused of neglecting their four children, three of whom were allegedly dangerously malnourished.
The Star Press reports Henry Circuit Court Judge Mary Willis on Friday rejected the proposed plea by Vincent Carl Zanghi and his wife, Sheena.
She did not discuss the terms of the deal the couple's attorneys had reached with prosecutors and set their trial for Aug. 3. The couple faces four counts each of neglect of a dependent.
Authorities who visited the couple's Summit Lake-area mobile home last June say they found twin toddlers and two siblings ages 2 and 3 in urine-soaked bedding in the filthy home with mold growing on the walls.
Physicians said three of the children were dangerously malnourished.
