(RUSHVILLE) - Powerful thunderstorms pounded central Indiana Tuesday, leaving thousands without power.
Rush County Emergency Management says half of Rushville was without power as of 10 a.m.
Many traffic lights are out in Rushville. Damage includes downed trees, with straight line wind damage to barns and other outbuildings.
About 1,200 are without power in the Rushville, mainly downtown and to the north. Duke Energy has brought in crews to repair downed lines and restoration is expected by noon at the earliest.
The Rush County Sheriff's Department, Rushville Police and Fire and Rushville Memorial Hospital are running on generator power.
Duke Energy reports over 3,000 without power. IPL reports 1,498 without power.
A flash flood warning is in effect until 3:00 pm for much of central Indiana and points west. Lizton reported nearly two inches of rain, while Indianapolis and Brownsburg had three quarters of an inch. West Lafayette reported .31 of an inch of rain.
Heavy downpours produced hail and flooding throughout Indianapolis, causing problems for drivers on city streets like Kessler and Keystone. Flooding was also reported on interstates, including I-465 at 71st.
More storms are possible Wednesday night and Thursday.
