(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County Criminal Court Judge Sheila Carlisle has postponed the trial of Gary Thompson, the fourth suspect in the Richmond Hill explosion.
WTHR reports that Thompson was arrested in January in connection with the deadly explosion that killed two people in the Richmond Hill subdivision in November 2012. Thompson is charged with two counts of murder and conspiracy to commit arson.
Prosecutors believe he poured gasoline in Monserrate Shirley's home.
Thompson's trial was to begin Monday, April 6. But defense attorneys who were recently appointed to the case explained to the judge they have had little time to review the lengthy and detailed information associated with the case.
The judge scheduled a pre-trial conference in mid-August. A new trial date has not yet been set, but prosecutors say it will likely be sometime next year after the trials of Bob and Mark Leonard, two other suspects in the case.
Also discussed in the courtroom Wednesday was a possible change of venue for Thompson.
The trials of both Bob and Mark Leonard have been moved out of Marion County. Prosecuting attorney Denise Robinson explained for that reason, it's only fair to consider the possibility of a change of venue in this case.
It will be up to the defense to request the change, which has not yet happened.
