(NORTH VERNON) - Two men were arrested in North Vernon Friday after allegedly trying to pay for a meal with counterfeit bills.
Sgt. Andrew Richmond, spokesman for the North Vernon Police Department, says officers were called to the restaurant, collected the counterfeit money and learned that the men had just left the restaurant. They were located about five minutes later on North Elm Street and were taken into custody.
23-year-old William Patrick Riffe II of Columbus, Ohio was allegedly found to have $1,040 of counterfeit currency in his possession. 18-year-old David R. Roybal of North Vernon admitted to passing some of the currency at another North Vernon business, Richmond said.
Police examined the counterfeit bills and found that the serial numbers matched authentic bills that Riffe had on him.
Riffe and Roybal are facing felony charges of fraud and misdemeanor charges of theft.
