(INDIANAPOLIS) - Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Kent Abernathy, is reminding Hoosiers to register their motor driven cycles, commonly referred to as scooters or mopeds, in order to be in compliance with the new law which went into effect January 1, 2015.
The law requires owners of mopeds or scooters with engines smaller than 50 cubic centimeters to have a registration, a license plate and an Indiana identification card. They also must pass a test identifying street signs.
As of mid-April, the BMV has registered nearly 9,000 MDCs.
"As the weather gets nicer, we expect more people to begin taking their MDCs out for a ride," said Commissioner Abernathy. "All MDCs should be registered as soon as possible so we can keep our roadways safe for everyone."
Resources about registrations and other information can be found at myBMV.com.
