(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 12-year-old boy died Tuesday evening after he was discovered unconscious in a community swimming pool.
A couple pulling their car alongside the pool discovered the boy in the pool off Allisonville & Kessler. They told authorities they noticed something dark inside the pool and called 911 as soon as they realized it was a young boy.
Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters pulled the 12-year-old out and performed CPR. He was eventually taken to Riley Hospital, where he later died.
The child had been alone in the pool area at the time of the incident. Apartment managers told the fire department the boy knew the pool rules and knew there was no lifeguard on duty.
A neighbor identified the boy as "James," a native of Ghana, Africa. A good kid speaking broken English who often came to her house for food and video games.
