(FORT BRANCH) - Some parents in Ft. Branch are questioning a new ordinance that bans toys from city streets.
WFIE reports that under the new rules, skateboards, scooters, and other kinds of toys with wheels are not allowed on the streets. Bicycles are the exception.
The ordinance also prohibits sports from being played on the roads.
Town Council President Tom Wallace says it's a safety measure, but parents disagree.
"Families like to get out, like to rollerblade, and do things," said Judy Adams. "I have been trying to encourage my son not to sit in front of video games and to get out and do something. Is this going to take it away from them?"
"We can't allow skateboards going down the middle of the street," said Wallace. "We've had too many close calls. I've had complaints about it. It's for the safety of the kids."
There are no plans to repeal the ordinance.
