(INDIANAPOLIS) - A huge construction project has close a busy ramp for two months at the south split is where I-65 north and I-70 west meet.
It is closed so the 40-year-old bridge over Morris and Prospect Streets can be repaired.
The cones and barrels are in place. Crews are rebuilding concrete bridge decks, replacing pin joints, and rebuilding bridge abutments.
Downtown commuters who usually take this route will have to exit elsewhere, which means heavier traffic in neighborhoods and at other on/off ramps like Raymond and Meridian Streets.
The official detour is at I-465.
INDOT decided to close the the ramp completely instead of making it a single lane of traffic because it would have meant a longer construction time and longer traffic backups.
