(COLUMBUS) - A North Vernon man spotted riding in the trunk of a car is now facing drug charges.
Columbus Police Sgt. Matt Harris, says a driver saw the lid of a car's trunk open up near U.S. 31 and Lowell Road Tuesday morning. A man inside the trunk then pulled the lid closed.
Officers stopped the car at about 8:30 a.m. near County Road 150W and had the driver open the trunk. 22-year-old William Luke Holman of North Vernon was in the trunk and officers allegedly saw narcotics and drug paraphernalia beside him, Harris says. The owner of the car says that Holman was inside the trunk to avoid being around other family members.
Harris says that Holman was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of heroin, possession of a legend drug injection device and a Jennings County warrant.
