(VERMILLION CO.) - Friday night at 8:45 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Michael Organ stopped a 2003 Mazda car on northbound State Road 63 near County Road 1100 South for 78 miles-per-hour in a 60 miles per hour zone.
During the traffic stop, Organ noticed several indicators of criminal activity and after checking the occupants and vehicle found nearly a gram of heroin, hypodermic needles and assorted drug paraphernalia.
The driver was identified 20-year-old Cassie K. Allen of Montezuma and her passenger 22-year-old Dustin S. Denson of Terre Haute were arrested.
Allen was charged with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic needle and neglect of a dependent.
Denson was also found to have a warrant for burglary out of Edgar County, Illinois in addition to being on parole from the Indiana Department of Corrections was arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic needle.
Both were taken to the Vermillion County Jail
Allen's 1-year-old daughter who was in the vehicle was turned over to the Department of Child Service. She was released to a family member.
The DCS investigation is ongoing.
