(SAINT MEINRAD) - A Bristow teen was killed Monday evening east of Saint Meinrad after the moped he was riding was struck by another vehicle.
Around 7:10 p.m. Central Time, 18-year-old Phoenix Donaldson of Bristow pulled out from the driveway at 740 Bristow-Saint Meinrad Road. As Donaldson pulled out into the southbound lane, he was struck by a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Aveo driven by 26-year-old Brock Smith of Tell City. Smith locked up his brakes south of the driveway, leaving tire marks prior to and after the crash.
Donaldson was pronounced dead by the Perry County Coroner's Office.
After further investigation, it was determined that Smith had operated his vehicle under the influence of methamphetamine. He was placed into custody without incident and is being held at the Perry County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance.
This crash remains under investigation by the State Police. ISP was assisted by the Perry County Sheriff's Department, Saint Meinrad Fire, Spencer County EMS and the Perry County Coroner's Office.
