(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Fire Department saved seven dogs from a house fire Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the fire at a home in the 4900 block of North Indianapolis Road just before 6 p.m.
When firefighters arrived everyone was out of the home, but the resident, Virginia Sample told firefighters her seven dogs were still inside. The home did not have working smoke detectors.
According to Columbus Fire Department Capt. Mike Wilson, firefighters opened a door to free the pets. All but three came out. Firefighters entered the home, found the remaining three dogs and carried them out.
Wilson say none of the dogs required medical attention.
The fire was under control within 10 minutes and damages are estimated at about $5,000.
The Red Cross assisted Sample with a temporary shelter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
