(CLARK CO.) - Four people were arrested in Clark County in connection with the HIV epidemic in southern Indiana.
DEA agents said 34-year-old Michael Elkins and 28-year-old Jon Morgan were arrested last week. Authorities said they were caught with methamphetamine, Opana and an AK-47 assault rifle. The two are accused of smuggling the drugs from Georgia.
Two additional suspects - Tyler Turner and William Thrower, were arrested by Indiana State Police troopers on Saturday with a half-pound of methamphetamine.
The investigation was led by Indiana State Police, Scott County Sheriff's Office, DEA and the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
FOX59 was told the four arrests are tied to the growing issue of drug users sharing dirty needles, causing a HIV outbreak that infected 170 people in Scott County.
More arrests are expected in the coming days.
