(FORT WAYNE) - Authorities report a Fort Wayne police officer investigating a report of a disturbance fatally shot a man who answered the front door armed with a handgun.
Police told WANE-TV one police officer fired at the man, whose identity has not been released. The shooting took place about 10:10 p.m. Saturday northwest of downtown.
Fort Wayne police spokesman John Chambers says the man was shot after he refused to put down the gun as ordered by police officers. Chambers told The Journal Gazette he did not know if the man attempted to shoot police or raised the weapon toward them.
He said paramedics were called, but the man died at the scene.
Indiana State Police and Allen County Prosecutor's Office were called to investigate the shooting.
