(LAFAYETTE) - A West Lafayette man faces eight felony charges after prosecutors say he used his knowledge of Kirby vacuums to con people out of their money and vacuums.
The Lafayette Journal and Courier reports that 47-year-old Scott Robert Bedford was charged Thursday with seven counts of theft and one count of corrupt business influence.
The former Kirby vacuum salesman is accused of telling previous customers that their machines had been recalled for mechanical problems and that he would take them to be fixed for free. Bedford also is accused of making cold-call sales to collect money for vacuums he never delivered.
Lafayette police Detective Patrick Dempster says all of the victims were over the age of 60.
It wasn't immediately known is Bedford has an attorney.
