(EVANSVILLE) - Evansville Police say an accused robber got away with two stab wounds and no money.
WFIE reports that 71-year-old Frederick Hobgood, who uses a walker to get around, was inside his Stanley Avenue home on July 3 when he saw a man look into his window. He says he now believes that man was casing the joint, making sure Hobgood was home alone.
What the man didn't know, is that Hobgood keeps a knife on the table next to his recliner, and says it's a good thing he does because he believes it saved his life.
"He came in the house with his face all covered and showed me a gun," he said. "He had a gun in one hand and a stun gun in the other, and told me to give him my money or he was going to shoot me. He stunned me a couple of times in the chest, one time in the next. I finally got to my knife and I stabbed him in the hand."
Police say they followed a blood trail that led them to Jimmy Biggs at a home on Fares Avenue. He had two severe knife wounds.
Biggs was taken to Deaconess Hospital where he underwent surgery before he was charged with the crime.
Hobgood tells us he later found out Biggs was the man he hired to clean his house.
