(UNDATED) - It’s nothing new as far as the scam world is concerned—storms roll through, trees come down, your home suffers some damage, and someone comes along looking to take advantage of your need for help.
The BBB is warning you to be on the lookout for fake contractors, often from out of state, that will show up at your door and promise great work but never follow through.
President of the BBB of Central Indiana Tim Maniscalo says that storm chasers are a common occurrence every year. Perhaps this year though the consumer is better armed to steer clear of these services. The BBB has unveiled its new Scam Tracker, which puts all of their information regarding ongoing scams and formats it to a nationwide map. Maniscalo says the map details every scam case they receive and puts online where homeowner can easy access it. The hope is that disseminating information quickly can help stop scammers and keep homeowners well informed.
As of Sunday morning there were more than two dozen recent scams detailed in Indiana alone, and more than 1,500 nationwide. You can find the Scam Tracker map on the BBB's website.
