(COLUMBUS) - Columbus firefighters battled a warehouse fire Friday night on Gladstone Avenue.
Capt. Mike Wilson, spokesman for the fire department, says that firefighters were called to CE Systems at about 11:45 p.m. Friday when witnesses saw fire coming out of the roof of the warehouse.
Wilson said firefighters broke through a locked gate and fought through heavy smoke to attack the fire in a section of the warehouse containing lumber and particle board. Firefighters continued into the main section of the warehouse where moldings were stored in plywood and particle board. The fire destroyed about a 600 square foot section of the main warehouse, according to Battalion Chief Mark Ziegler.
Ziegler said that he was very happy with the performance of the crews.
"Our guys did a great job of getting in there and stopping the fire," he said in a Saturday night press release. "There was a lot of lot of fuel load in there that would have made our job difficulty. Had the fire continued in that section, we very likely would still be on the scene."
The fire remains under investigation.
