(CENTRAL IND.) - A number of roads - primarily those in rural areas - are partially or completely closed due to high water.
WTHR reports, torrential rainfall earlier this morning resulted in washouts, roadway ponding, and motorists struggling with hydro-planing while driving. Creeks and streams have overflowed their banks in many places. Slide-offs involving motorists were frequent according to law enforcement agencies.
The hardest hit areas are in Hendricks and Morgan counties, where several roads are closed due to flooding and trees that are blocking lanes. In Mooresville, at least 5 people were forced from their homes due to flash flooding.
In Johnson County, heavy rains--particularly in the southern portion of the county--caused the closure of several roads. In Hendricks County, high water and ponding were reported in several locations. One county road has washed out near 600S and 200W. There also are problems with high water along I-70 near the 58 mile marker.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid driving into standing water, and to slow down and allow extra time when traveling this morning.
