(SOUTH BEND) - With a guilty verdict handed down on all 53 counts against Mark Leonard in the Richmond Hill explosion case, the only question left is how much time will spend behind bars?
Today Leonard, his defense, prosecutors, and the judge are all convening for a hearing on the possibility of life without parole.
Ultimately the decision is up to the judge as the defense has waived a sentence by jury. If the judge decides to opt out of the life without parole sentence, Leonard would still face up to 135 years in prison on the murder charges alone. Those only account for only a small portion of the 53 guilty verdicts against him.
When he addressed the press after the verdict announcement Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said that, with guilty verdicts across the board, life without parole seems to be a foregone conclusion.
Curry says that after the sentencing the next step is to prepare for the trial of Bob Leonard, Mark Leonard's brother, and the only other suspect so far with a set trial date. Bob Leonard's trial will happen in January in Fort Wayne.
