(AUBURN) - A northeastern Indiana police chief says cash and weapons are missing from his property room.
Auburn Police Chief Martin McCoy says a January audit showed $2,000 in cash was missing, plus four knives, eight bullets and a 12-gauge shotgun.
The Auburn Star reports McCoy held a news conference Tuesday at which he said a woman came to the department Jan. 19 to reclaim $1,400 in cash from a case that had been resolved. The audit was prompted when officers could not find the money.
McCoy says four Auburn Police employees took polygraph tests but the theft of the money remains unsolved. He says Indiana State Police and the Allen County Sheriff's Department investigated the case for two months, but did not turn up enough evidence to file criminal charges.
