(COLUMBUS) - A number of checks that were made out to the Columbus and Bartholomew County D.A.R.E. Program for the August 7 golf outing at Otter Creek are missing.
Columbus Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Matt Harris says that three days after the event, it was discovered that 17 checks issued to D.A.R.E. were missing.
The Columbus Police Department is currently investigating.
At this time, Harris says that there is no evidence that the missing checks resulted from "anything more than an accident that can be fully rectified."
The donors have reissued, or are in the process of reissuing, checks for their contributions.
Harris went on to thank the donors for their generosity in supporting the efforts to educate Columbus and Bartholomew County students about the dangers of drugs and the importance of making good decisions.
