(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Pence is pledging to address property taxes on farms and look at ways to boost Indiana’s infrastructure.
Pence took mostly friendly questions from fairgoers for 40 minutes at a town hall at the State Fair's Pioneer Village. The lone exception was a Warrick County man who charged that Indiana's private school vouchers have forced public schools to raise taxes.
Pence points to increased overall school spending in the new state budget, and defends the voucher program, which he says has expanded educational options and allowed 30,000 Hoosier students to attend schools they otherwise couldn't.
Pence says the state may set aside more money for roadwork even before the next budget, but he declined a Clinton County commissioner's invitation to promise more money for local roads and streets.
